For most people who just started playing pool, the cue stick is not much of a concern about the sizing or quality of the stick. As the player become more advanced, the way they look at the cue now will change. Not all cue are the same and each is built differently. You will need to find out which one is right for you. Since you’ve never bought a cue or anything similar before, you may not now what to look for. To help you purchase the right cue, here are some billiard cue basics.
All cue will have the same component, no matter where or how it’s made – the shaft, the tip, and the grip. Most of the cue stick on the market can be broken down into three separate pieces. The reason for this is portability. Can you imagine trying to carry a long stick to different places? However, there are one piece cue out there, but they are usually the lower quality one.
The shaft is the length of the cue that will strike the ball. The grip is where you place your hand to move the cue around. And for the tip, it’s the area of the cue where it hits the ball into motion.
When purchasing the cue, the most important factor is the feel of it. You need to be comfortable with the cue to play your best. The cue needs to be the right size that it fits firmly in your hand. Of course, if you have bigger hands, you will need a bigger cue. Try balancing it on your hand to get a good feel for it. If it feels right, then keep it aside and try other cue to see if it’s better than the first.
Also, you may want to consider the different materials that it’s made from. The materials will determine the final weight for it. There are many different types of wood and each will weigh differently.
Picking a cue is simple if you understand what you’re looking for. Choose the one that you feel comfortable with because it will be the one that you will be playing with for a long time.
