If you play pool at home, you probably never thought that the balls needs cleaning. Most people don’t do it because they think as long as the ball is shiny, it’s fine. The only time that the balls doesn’t require any cleaning is when you only play pool a couple times. Other than that, they will need cleaning to perform at their best.
Before you begin cleaning them, you will need to get some dry clothes, wax, and water. You can find wax and cleaners that are specifically made for them. It is recommended to get the highest quality wax available. Even though it might be a little more expensive that the others, it will give you the best result.
Start by cleaning the balls with a clean dry cloth. If there are some things that won’t come off, use soap and water to clean them. After going through all the balls, apply the cleaner that you bought. For the best result, follow the instructions that came with it. Once you’re done with all the balls, let them sit to dry. The last step is waxing them and follow the instructions to get the ball looking shiny again.
Beside doing the above, you can simply wash the billiard balls in a dishwasher. When placing the balls, try to space them out so the water can rinse each one. When it comes to detergent, stay away from harsh detergent as it could damage the finish of the balls. The normal strength is sufficient and will get the job done. After they’re done washing, simply take a dry cloth and wipe them down.
If you want optimal performance from your billiard balls, you should clean them often. Usually after about ten plays, they should go through a good wash. As long as you keep the balls clean, they will look new for a very long time.
